The Green Home Grant and funding

The Green Home Grant is a government grant which delivers vouchers towards the cost of installing energy-efficient improvements to your home. The maximum amount of funding that is available for homeowners is £5,000 and this voucher will cover 2/3 of the cost of eligible improvements. However, if you receive certain benefits, the voucher may cover 100% of the cost of improvements. The maximum value of the voucher is £10,000.

Disclaimer: Landlords are eligible for the Green Homes Grant Funding but are not eligible the maximum funding which is available for those on low-income support.

When was the Green Home Grant released?

The government announced, the funding to begin in September 2020. The £2 billion scheme was from the government to help the housing industry by installing measures such as loft insulation, new boilers, and double-glazed windows.

Who qualifies for a Green Home Grant?

  • UK Homeowners
  • Leaseholders
  • Park homeowners
  • Shared Ownership Owners
  • Private and Social Landlords (However, they cannot qualify for the `low income top-up` service.

Disclaimer: New-build properties that have not previously been occupied are not eligible for the scheme.

Primary measures include insulation measures to reduce your energy consumption and low carbon heating measures to reduce the carbon emissions your home produces. The insulation measures include loft, solid wall, cavity wall, flat roof, room in roof, park home insulation. The low carbon heating measures include air or ground source heat pump, solar thermal (liquid-filled flat plate or evacuated tube collector), biomass boiler or a hybrid heat pump.

Disclaimer: According to the grant, you must have at least one primary measure, and the voucher cannot be used for replacing primary measures but can be used to `top-up` these measures.

Secondary measures are also included in the grant. However, you must install one primary measure and then the voucher can assist with providing funding for any of the following secondary measures.  Secondary measures include improvement measures for windows and doors including drought proofing, double or triple glazing (to replace single glazing), secondary glazing (in addition to single glazing), energy-efficient replacement doors (replacing single glazed or solid doors installed before 2002) Heating controls and insulation measures include hot water tank thermostat and insulation and heating controls

Am I still eligible to claim the Green Homes Grant if I am receiving other Grants?

If you are receiving or have claimed for other grants such as the ECO Grant and as long as you do not use the Green Home Grant for the same specific improvement measures that are used by the ECO grant then you should still be eligible.

Deadline to use the voucher by

The deadline to use the voucher is by March 2021. It is required to use the voucher early to ensure that your improvement measure is completed by this date.

What does the Voucher Cover?

Additional works will be covered by the voucher if they are necessary for the installation of measures.
